Not just any two points either, the two Megan Baxter and Jody Detlaff teamed up for at the end of the game were the decisive ones in a clutch 55-53 win for the Lady Hawks over the Lady Lions in Eureka Saturday.

Taking over first place in District 7B, coach Chadd Laws and his Lady Hawks improve to 6-1 in conference and 9-2 overall while coach Ryan Holder's Lions fall to 5-1 and 8-5. Entering the fray as the No. 6 rated Class B in Montana, the Hawks avenged an earlier loss to No. 5 Eureka in Thompson Falls.

"Jody came up big there at the end but everyone played well in Eureka," Laws said. "We had a chance to break things open earlier in the fourth quarter but you have to give Eureka credit for fighting back like they did."

The Hawks face another important 7B test Saturday hosting Bigfork. In other upcoming action, the Lady Hawks will play Stillwater Christian in Kalispell Thursday and will visit Libby for another non-conference game Tuesday.

Two of the best players in Western B this season and two of the best in Lady Hawk hoop history already, Detlaff and Baxter, both seniors and twin towers of rebounding and scoring power throughout their careers, put the finishing touches on Saturday's big win with the game-clinching play, an alert inbounds pass from Baxter to Detlaff.

And that play was only the last nail in the coffin for the D.O.A. Lions. Detlaff finished the game with an amazing stat line of 18 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and three assists, while Baxter scored nine points, pulled down 15 rebounds and passed out six assists.

Megan's little sister Ellie Baxter, a sophomore, added 13 points and 10 rebounds, Elli Pardee scored nine points and Faith Frields six. Riley Wilson and Caity Alexander did not score but also contributed to the Hawks' win.

Kyla Bohne scored a game-high 23 points for Eureka and Katie Schmidt added 16.

The Hawks were also set to host Loyola, ranked No. 3 in the latest State B poll, last Friday, but Loyola rescheduled that game for Feb. 17, when it will hopefully finally be played in Thompson Falls.

Laws said that besides the fine play of Detlaff and the Baxter sisters in Eureka, the Hawks played a solid all-around game against the Lions. "We were able to use our inside-outside game very well," he said. "We have been working the ball inside to our bigs and they have been kicking it out to our shooters, who have been making the shots."

Whatever happens from here on out, Laws wants his girls to maintain their sense of identity.

"We want to continue to be who we are," he said. "We want to run the floor consistently, defend aggressively and control the rebounds. If we do those things, we should be successful.
