Support for Second Amendment resolution

March 11, 2021

Dear Commissioners of Sanders County, Glenn Magera, Carole Brooker, and Tony Cox,

While I understand that Second Amendment Sanctuary Resolutions are merely a statement of support for the Second Amendment. Such resolutions represent a redress of grievances towards unconstitutional limits placed upon citizens right to keep and bear arms.

Forwarded to our state officials, and specifically our Governor such resolution makes a solid statement that Sanders County does not waver in support of FREEDOM. A Resolution to establish Sanders County as a Second Amendment Sanctuary can have a huge impact on our state officials.

I urge our county consider a resolution to establish Sanders County as a Second Amendment Sanctuary as presented by citizens of Sanders County.

The U.S. Constitution and Bills of Rights being the supreme Law of the United States have guided our nation for 244 years. The inalienable rights secured by the Bill of Rights represent our Liberty. The wise men who drafted and ratified the U.S. Constitution with the Bill of Rights did not view the Second Amendment as mere gun ownership, but as our natural right to protect ourselves, our families, our property, our states, and our republic. These Rights are what every person holding public office at EVERY level have sworn oath to uphold – to do otherwise is to betray every citizen they represent.

red flag laws, for example, are designed to restrict law abiding citizens of the United States based on the presumption of what one “might” do or “could” do by predictive policing aka profiling. Any law that can be misused to disarm honest citizens without due process is “unconstitutional” and should concern ALL citizens. "You do not examine legislation in the light of the benefits it will convey if properly administered, but in the light of the wrongs it would do and the harms it would cause if improperly administered." – Lyndon B. Johnson 36th POTUS.

It is important that we as citizens have our voices heard at the county, state, and federal levels. Many counties across the country are passing Second Amendment resolutions.

Therefore, I request that citizens be allowed to redress grievances with state officials through the instrument of a Second Amendment Sanctuary County Resolution.

Further, I urge our Sanders County Commission to not support unconstitutional laws which run counter to the Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights and our Montana State Constitution, Article II, Section 12, which could limit our ability to protect ourselves, our families, our property, our State, and our Union. The Bill of Rights is the foundation of our FREEDOM which so many Americans and Montanans gave their lives to defend.

Sincerely,

Jim Greaves and

Lark Chadwick,

Thompson Falls
