Additional candidates file for school boards

With some last-minute filings, additional school districts have enough candidates for an election in May.

The county will mail ballots for elections to the Noxon, Plains, Thompson Falls and Trout Creek school boards. Bobbie Christenson with the county elections office said they are hoping to mail ballots on Wednesday, April 14. Ballots must be returned to the office by Tuesday, May 4.

In Trout Creek, two three-year terms are up for election. Three candidates have filed, including Eric Viviano, Donald Ekstedt and Sarah Cooper.

Five candidates are running for the two open three-year terms in Thompson Falls. Those include Ramona Jacobson, Averie Boon, Jeneese Baxter, Lisa Ruen and Sandra Muster.

Plains School District also has two three-year positions open. The five candidates who have filed in Plains are Monica Weedeman, Charles French, Brian Meaden, Amy Carey and Ellen Childress.

The Noxon School District elects board members in two separate areas, Noxon High School / Noxon Elementary and Noxon High School / Trout Creek Elementary. For the Noxon Elementary board representatives, two three-year terms are open this spring. The three candidates running for those are Lars Swanson, Cassandra Hill and Colleen Hinds. There are two open Trout Creek Elementary positions on the Noxon School Board. Norris Bryan was the only candidate to file for the three-year term, while Jason Colyer and Bill Stevenson are vying for the open one-year position.

Dixon School Board has one open position, for which Boone Cole was the only candidate to file. Dirk Roosma was the sole candidate filing for one of the two open positions on the Hot Springs School Board.

If voters have moved, they must call the Sanders County election office to update their information and ensure they receive a ballot when they are mailed later this month. Voter information can be verified on the state’s My Voter Page, and updated by calling 827-6949.

The Ledger will publish profiles of the school board candidates in the April 15 edition.
