Work It Out Fitness and Health – Owner Heather Thompson (right) and health consultant Brenda Crowe say they are bringing a holistic approach to the gym that they opened in Thompson Falls June 1.

A new gym opened this month in Thompson Falls. Heather Thompson, owner of Work It Out Health and Fitness, says she felt there was a need for another gym in the area. "The doors just opened for me," Thompson said of the reason why she decided to open her own business. An advocate for holistic health, Thompson says this approach will be how she builds her business. The space, located in the basement of the Clark Fork Title building on Main Street, is ADA accessible and has several possibilities for expansion. Thompson says she hopes to host classes there and she wants to add a sauna and tanning beds in the near future.

The owner wants to bring a modern aesthetic to her gym. By bringing in different equipment that incorporates virtual reality (VR) into the workout, she hopes to cater to a younger demographic. "The VR will draw in young people and it will get them interested in exercise," Thompson said.

While she works on creating an atmosphere that will bring comfort to anyone who comes in, Thompson will also be catering to families in the area as well. "I want it to be positive and high energy. I want it be innovative as well," she said. "I also want a place where the whole family can come break a sweat, get a workout and socially interact."

Thompson has brought in health consultant Brenda Crowe to help her on her journey of natural health. "She has a wealth of knowledge as far as natural healing goes," Thompson said. Crowe has been an ordained minister for the last 30 years and said hers and Thompson's faith has helped them bond over their approach to homeopathic healing and medicine.

"I've been educated by an extremely knowledgeable herbalist and taught by a homeopathic instructor," Crowe said. "Pair that with faith and prayer, I am able to give a gentler approach to exercise to those with disabilities. I'm here to help those who can't do those hard exercises." Crowe hopes to bring her own experience with heart disease and incorporate it into training at the gym.

With the hope of adding more equipment as business progresses, the gym already offers several different options for a good workout, from free weights and a plank station to an inversion table. "I'm hoping to add ellipticals, a rower and some heavy weights," Thompson said. "It all depends on the clientele." Thompson, who is also a local musician, believes the addition of some good music will aid in her goal of creating a modern, fun vibe.
