Our Viewpoint

Taking advantage of local live music

In last week’s Question of the Week, we asked what type of activities people would like to see in the area. Several said live music.

A variety of musical talent has been visiting The Rex recently. On Thursday, Tylor and the Train Robbers, a band from Boise, played at The Rex Theater. Though it wasn’t a packed house, the band members played their hearts out and made each of those 70 people feel like it was a sold-out show. Their energy and storytelling was amazing. They had people dancing up front and got a standing ovation.

When it was over, I felt really lucky to be able to see a quality band such as Tylor and the Train Robbers in our small town. Tylor Ketchum, the lead singer, said, “We love it when people save history.”

On a recent trip to Trout Creek for dinner, The Wayside had its summer concert series lineup listed on a big banner above the door. They have a full slate this summer, as does The Rex.

If it’s live music residents are looking for, our local venues are stepping up to the challenge and bringing it to them. Check out one of your favorite local bands, or come enjoy one you’ve never heard of. They just might end up being your new favorite.
