Alex Bouey of Noxon opened for The Teccas Saturday night at the Rex Community Theater.

Live music was in abundance Saturday night, bringing the small towns of Sanders County to life. The sound of a solo acoustic guitar filled the walls of the Rex Community Theater, as local Alex Bouey opened for international award-winning duo The Teccas.

A rare opportunity to see a local musician open a show, Bouey wowed the audience during an open mic night at the Rex, leading to his inaugural moment of becoming the opening act. "He was just so great, we had to put him on," stated Charlie Munday with the Rex Community Theater.

"I was excited to be asked," Bouey said. "Since COVID, I haven't been playing any live music, so it was exciting." Bouey says he's been involved in music for the last 10 years. "I fell in love with electronic music, but the acoustic guitar is my passion." The musician says he plays a lot of open mic nights and jams around the area. "I also fish, kayak and spend time with my girlfriend, Amanda," he said. Bouey will be playing his next show at the Fourth of July event in Noxon.

Backstage, The Teccas were warming up and getting ready for their set. This was their first show in Thompson Falls, said Kayla Tecca, who performs with her dad, Scott. "We will be playing a lot of originals tonight and we will fill in with some of our favorites," Scott Tecca said of their two-hour set.

The duo travels around Montana, Idaho, Washington and Oregon showing listeners their acoustic mix of country and folk. "We're on the road full-time playing, so we consider it all a tour," Scott said. Kayla added, "we played last night in Kalispell, came in today for a sound check and ate at Minnie's."

The show opened with an original song called "Chasing the dream." Performing alongside The Teccas was Isaac Ruggles. He brought the soulful sounds of his harmonica to stage, allowing the trio to mesmerize audience members with their acoustic harmonies.

The Hogslop String Band from Nashville will be making a stop at the Rex July 15 while they are on their way to the Big Sky Blues Festival. Check the Rex Community Theater Facebook page for details.
