Dorothy Mae (Laws) Mummey, 78, passed away in Spokane, Washington, on Monday, June 14, 2021.

Dorothy joined the family of Frank and Mabel (Nelson) Laws on December 17, 1942, in Missoula, Montana, as the youngest of seven children. The family lived in Greenough until Dorothy was about 5 months old when they moved to Trout Creek. Growing up in the Trout Creek area, Dorothy attended Trout Creek grade school and then Noxon High School. She excelled in office skills and was the acting school secretary during the construction of the new Noxon school. On August 19, 1960, she married Marvin Johnson in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and they had one child, Viola Jenny Johnson. Dorothy later moved to Las Vegas, where she married Ty Mummey and they spent many years living between Las Vegas and Libby, Montana. In 1988 Dorothy moved to Noxon to live near family before moving to Spokane, Washington, in 1991, where she lived until her passing.

Dorothy worked as a housekeeper at the Royal Las Vegas and the Nob Hill Casino in Las Vegas, but the job she enjoyed the most was working in the birthplace at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane as a utility service attendant. She considered her fellow workers as friends and loved the interactions that she had with the patients.

Dorothy loved spending time with her family and in her spare time enjoyed crocheting, reading and doing crossword puzzles. From a young age she had an affection for cats and dogs; and her first cat, Tilly, always held a special place in her heart.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Viola (Mike) Corbin; granddaughters Sonya (Earl) Hines and Jennyfer Corbin; great-grandchildren Tabetha, Dylan and Eyan Hines, sister Ethel (Laws) Richards; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mabel; siblings Ernest (Helen) Laws, Leona (Phil) Cameron, Bill (Billie) Laws, Larry (Ann) Laws, Hank (Barbara) Laws; brother-in-law John Richards; half-siblings Don (Naomi) Laws, Roy (Ora Lee) Amman, Doris (Frank) Polinsky; and special friend Harold Wilson.

In honor of Mom’s love of animals, memorial donations would be gratefully accepted at a local animal shelter.

A family celebration of life will be held later this summer.
