CLARIFICATION

October 28, 2021

An October 21, 2021 Ledger article stated that, regarding COVID-19 treatments, “the example was an increased risk, especially in youth, for myocarditis, which is an inflammation of the heart. Valentine made clear that the risk for getting myocarditis is raised by a higher percentage in those who take birth control as compared to the risk increase for those who get vaccinated.” Dr. Jessica Valentine provided this statement clarifying the example: “The risk for myocarditis is higher in people who have COVID than it is in those who have the COVID-vaccine. I am not aware of birth control pills causing an increased risk of myocarditis. The risk for blood clots is higher in those who take birth control than those who get the COVID-19 vaccine (specifically this refers to the Jansen/Johnson & Johnson vaccines, which are known to be higher risk for blood clots than the mRNA vaccines). Risk of blood clots is also higher in those who get COVID-19 than it is in those who get any of the COVID-19 vaccines.” The Ledger regrets the error.
