Noxon and Hot Springs traveled to the District 14C volleyball tournament in Superior last week. While both teams' seasons ended at the district tournament, they each fought hard and went out with valiant effort.

The Savage Heat opened their tournament play against St. Regis on Thursday, beating the Tigers in five sets. Hot Springs fell 16-25 in the first set, but came back to win two straight, 25-22 and 25-19. The Tigers gained momentum in the fourth set with a 25-22 win, but Hot Springs sealed the win in the fifth, 15-5. The Savage Heat then met Charlo later Thursday, falling in three sets (25-12, 25-13, 25-8).

Thursday's loss set up a rematch with Hot Springs and St. Regis on Friday. The Savage Heat fell to the Tigers 25-20 in the first set, but rallied for a 25-22 win in the second. St. Regis came back to win the final two sets 26-24 and 25-20.

The Noxon Red Devils also fought hard at the district tournament in Superior. Though Noxon lost both of their matchups, they put on an impressive showing and held on for four sets against Alberton-Superior and five against St. Regis. Noxon first met Alberton-Superior in the first round of the tournament. The Red Devils lost the first set 25-16, but came back for a close 25-23 win in the second before falling 25-15 and 25-17 in the final sets. They then met St. Regis for the final match of the first day of the tournament. Noxon started strong with a 25-20 win over the Tigers in the first set, which St. Regis matched with a 25-17 win in the second. The Red Devils rallied once again to take the third set 25-13, however the Tigers pulled ahead with a 25-16 fourth set win and a 15-13 final set victory.

Albert-Superior went on to place second in the District 14C tournament, losing to Charlo in the championship match. Those two teams will advance to the divisional tournament this weekend at Manhattan Christian.
