Voters decide school, special district races

 


Winners for local school board and special district races were determined this week as ballots were counted Tuesday. Election results are considered unofficial until certified.

Noxon School District had four positions up for election, two representing Noxon Elementary/Noxon High School and two representing Noxon/Trout Creek. Rachel Peterson and James Christensen received 325 and 213 votes, respectively to win the Noxon/Noxon positions on the Noxon School Board. Other candidates included Nick Posselt (185 votes), Tamra Weltz (133 votes) and Jen Fratzke (100 votes). Winners of the Noxon/Trout Creek race were Natalie Erwin with 235 votes and Jason Colyer with 136 votes. David Smith received 121 votes.

In Plains School District, voters chose Beau French for the one open three-year term. He received 484 votes, while Mary Halling received 359 votes and Brian Meaden 290.

Ramona Jacobson was voted as Thompson Falls School District’s new board member, with 417 votes. Lisa Ruen received 367 votes and Michael Beckman 324.

In Trout Creek, three school board positions were open. Carolyn Nesbitt was elected to a two-year term, Michael Linderman to a one-year term, and Scott Rasor to a two-year term. While Nesbitt and Linderman ran unopposed, Rasor received 304 votes and Alicia Myers received 108.

Heron Rural Fire District had two three-year terms up for elections, with four candidates vying for the positions. Christine Knodle and Tim Lindeman received 210 and 203 votes, respectively, to win the open seats, while Peggy Niesen received 47 and Clarence “Chuck” Goetz 45 votes.

Thompson Falls Rural Fire District had one three-year position open. Steven Davis filed, and there were two write-in candidates. Davis won the election with 503 votes, while 30 voters cast ballot for write-in candidate Bodie Leaf and no ballots were cast for write-in candidate Bruce Hall.

Noxon/Heron Public Hospital District had one position open. Carolyn Carter won the election with 390 votes, while Timothy Jones received 101. Carter will serve a three-year term.

Three candidates filed for the two open four-year positions on the Sanders County water district at Paradise. Terry Caldwell and Lee Ann Overman were elected with 42 and 33 votes, respectively. The other candidate, William McFadgen, received 24 votes.

There were also three candidates for the two open positions on the Paradise Sewer District board. Janie McFadgen received 42 votes and Pernel Chapman 41. The two will serve four-year terms on the sewer board. Janice Barber received 19 votes in the election.
