Lessons from Mom

"Smile, it makes people wonder what you're up to." That's something my mom always says to me when I'm having a hard day. It's one of many things my mom has instilled in me as my best friend and biggest fan. Even in my 40s, my mom is always there when I need her. She brings me food on long days, dog sits, runs errands, listens and sends me an encouraging text every morning.

This Mother's Day, the Ledger crew is thankful for our moms and the lessons they have taught us.

Reporter Miriah Kardelis says her mother was, is and always will be a kind soul. "She embodied kindness when raising my brother and I. I strive, even to this day, to be like her; a kind soul."

Advertising Manager Andina Markuson's mom always said "don't eat a pickle before you go to bed or you will have nightmares." Historian Sherry Hagerman-Benton remembers her mom's unconditional love. "She had four children. When I asked her if she had a favorite, she said no, she loved all of us equally," Sherry says. Her mom also taught her the fine art of making a rue for gravy, which also teaches patience.

"The only reason I turned out so awesome is because of her," Ledger employee Ben Croft says of his mom. "I'm so grateful that she has always pushed me and seen the best in me."

Thanks to all the moms who taught us great life lessons. We hope you know we love you so much more than all the toasters, vacuums and bathrobes given over the years would suggest.
