County fares well at ARM

 


Thirteen teams attended the 24th annual Akey, Rosenberg and Murphy (A.R.M.) track meet last week in Whitefish, including Thompson Falls, Plains and Hot Springs. Athletes from all three teams placed in the tournament.

For Thompson Falls, Ryan Bucher won the 400 with a time of 52.81 seconds, William Hyatt placed fourth in the mile with a time of 4 minutes 42.58 seconds and fifth in the 800 with a time of 2 minutes 7.94 seconds, the boys’ short relay team took fourth with a time of 46.11 seconds, Breck Ferris took fifth in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet 9.5 inches, Faith Palmer took third in the two mile with a time of 13 minutes 23.08 seconds and fourth in the mile with a time of 6 minutes and .64 seconds. The Lady Hawks took fourth in the long relay with a time of 4 minutes and 48.8 seconds and Hattie Neesvig placed fourth in the high jump at 4 feet 10 inches.

For Plains, freshman Alexis Deming placed first in discus with a throw of 113 feet 5 inches and third in the shot put at 33 feet 9.5 inches. The girls’ long relay team took fifth with a time of 5 minutes and 1.31 seconds and Mason Elliot placed in both hurdle events, fourth in the 110 meter race with a time of 17.92 seconds and fifth in the 300 with a time of 47.4 seconds.

Katelyn Christensen led the way for Hot Springs placing second in the shot put, second in javelin, and fourth in discus with throws of 34 feet 5.5 inches, 110 feet 10 inches and 97 feet 2 inches, respectively. She also ran well, placing third in the 100 with a time of 13.26 seconds and fourth in the 200 with a time of 27.24 seconds. Kyle Lawson also scored points for the Heat, pole vaulting 10 feet 6 inches for fourth place and Quincy Styles-Depoe placed fifth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 18.18 seconds.

“This team continues to impress me with how serious they are taking their events. Everyone wants to and is trying to improve week to week,” said Hawk Coach Trenna Ferris. “The younger athletes are working hard to improve and our veteran athletes are stepping up and placing at the bigger meets. The District meet is quickly approaching and we are working on fine tuning some things that need to be fixed in jumps, on the track and in the throws.

Thompson Falls and Plains will compete in the District 7B meet in Bigfork on May 14. The top six placers from each event will advance to the divisional meet, hosted by Big Sky High School in Missoula May 20-21. The District 13C/14C meet is scheduled for May 13-14 in Missoula.
