Our Viewpoint

The sale must go on

We sometimes take for granted that things that always seem to magically get done. Such is the case with the Sanders Saleing county-wide yard sale event. This event each June brings hundreds of people to Sanders County. They don't just come looking for deals. They eat at our restaurants, stay in our motels, shop at our stores.

Thompson Falls resident Robin Hagedorn, who passed away last year, put hundreds of hours into organizing the Sanders Saleing event. She was all over the county putting up flyers, coordinating sign pickup and dropoff, and promoting the event. Robin left big shoes to fill.

I love the Sanders Saleing event. I always meet new people while I'm out finding some special treasures. The event is a great way to get out and meet our neighbors and explore our county. As the new president of the Thompson Falls Chamber of Commerce, I want to make sure this county-wide event continues and that we honor Robin's legacy with a great event for our county. There will be growing pains in this transition the first year as we work to keep the event going, but it will be worth it.

Just as when local nonprofits change leaders or an event gets a new organizer, there are changes that will happen, but our communities step up and make sure events happen.

If you want to help with the event, you can volunteer to hang posters, have a sale, or just spread the word. So many great things happen in our county when people come together. We as a Chamber hope that the same happens with the Sanders Saleing event. Sign up for a sale or find more information at http://www.thompsonfallschamber.org, and we'll see you at the sales June 24-25.
