The Thompson Falls Blue Hawks lost last week’s matchup against the Eureka Lions, 59-13. “Our depth is thin and inexperienced but we fought hard the best we could,” said Hawks head coach Jared Koskela.

The Hawks started the game off with a fumble on a snap, recovered by the Lions. The Lions, unable to capitalize on this, ended up giving the ball back on a fourth-down punt. However, on the Lion’s next possession they were able to run the ball up the middle, all the way to the endzone for the game's first touchdown, grabbing an early 0-6 lead.

Later into the quarter, the Hawks lost possession with another fumble, this time behind their 10-yard line. The Lions utilized this to score another touchdown, extending their lead to 0-13.

On their subsequent kickoff, the Lions were able to find space in the midfield and recover their kickoff. On their first offensive play, the Lions were able to score on a long pass to bring their score up to 0-20.

On the Hawks’ next drive, they had a series of successful long passes bringing them within 10-yards of the endzone. With one more pass to Bluehawks senior captain Breck Ferris in a crowded endzone, the Hawks were able to put their first points on the board, 7-20.

Quick to respond, the Lions had a long throw into an empty backfield to bring their score up to 7-26. On the Hawks’ next drive, they threw an interception in the midfield, putting the Lions in position to score yet another touchdown on a long pass leaving the score 7-32 at halftime. “Once again we gained the most offensive yards this season and played them tough in the first half,” said Koskela.

On the Lions' first possession in the first half, they were able to score another touchdown on a breakaway run to bring the score up to 7-38. The Hawks were able to respond with another series of long passes that set them up within 10-yards of the endzone. Another touchdown pass to Ferris in a crowded endzone was able to bring their score up to 13-38. The Lions answered with a touchdown of their own to bring their lead up to 13-44.

For the last three possessions of the game, the Hawks turned the ball over and the Lions scored each time to finish the game off with a score of 13-59. “We never gave up and I am proud to be coaching a bunch of tough dudes willing to lead and better themselves. All I can ask from them,” said Koskela.
