Last Friday night Hot Springs Savage Heat hosted their rival team, the Charlo Vikings. The theme was ugly Christmas sweater night and Hot Springs wanted wins. The boys began the games.

In the first quarter, Quincy Styles-DePoe made a classic three-point shot and senior Garth Parker got a rebound for the team to put them at 10 points to the Vikings 16. In the second quarter Hot Springs fell further behind, ending at 38-16.

The third quarter brought out the great teamwork of the Savage Heat players; everyone was involved in plays. Charlo however kept their lead, to wrap up the quarter at 55-25. In the fourth quarter Hot Springs fought hard, the crowd cheered the rebounds and swift handling. The final score was 61-39, the Vikings with the win.

The girls Savage Heat started out on fire, blazing down the court to win the first quarter, 17-10 against the Vikings. In the second quarter they were able to hold a two-point lead over the Vikings, wrapping it up at 22-20.

Coach Richard Jackson said that they never give up and are looking forward to playing Charlo again next week. He said that they are working on their "fast-break," playing all the way down the court without the ball hitting the ground, so watch-out!

Kara Christensen and Lily DeTienne had eight rebounds each and Brooke Jackson led the team with three steals. The top scorers were seniors DeTienne with 17 points and Josie Uski with 10 points. "I'm proud of my seniors for the way they played and for taking on the leadership role," said Jackson. He added that he was impressed with the free-throw success rate being 61.5%.
