Final games for Horsemen, Trotters

Plains ended their basketball season last weekend at the 7-B District tournament. Both teams improved their individual talent and teamwork throughout the season.

The Trotters and Horsemen started their District tournament in Eureka against the Lions last Tuesday. The Trotters lost in a close game 54-45. The first half finished at 15-14 with Eureka in the lead. In the third quarter Eureka pounced ahead to lead by nine.

Carlie Wagoner started off the fourth quarter making both of her free-throws and the game was 38-34 with Eureka up by four. Both teams played an aggressive offensive with the score at 46-41 with 3:15 left on the clock. The Lions were able to drive in the shots for the win.

Wagoner led the team with 22 points, Kassidy O'Keefe racked up seven, Lexie Deming shot seven, Maddy Blood hooped five and Izzy Crabb came away with four points.

In the Plains boys game the Lions took charge of the first quarter 17-8 and the Horsemen tightened up the slack in the second to come within three points, 24-21. By the end of the third quarter the Lions were up 41-28. Anaya Loberg drove in a 3-pointer to start the fourth but the Lions kept up their momentum to take the win.

Loberg netted 18 points, Eddie Perianez cranked out nine points, Darren Standenford shot four, Gunner Gannarelli made three and Shawn O'Keefe shot one.

The Plains Trotters ended the season with a 55-16 loss to Mission on Saturday. Senior Crabb banked a three-point shot in the first quarter and Jaelyn Carr, Deming and Peyton Wasson all made a free-throw shot to end the half. Carr was quick with the handling in the third quarter and Trystan Larsen scored a two-point basket.


Amy Hill launched a 3-pointer to start off the fourth and Crabb hooped the last shot for Plains. Crabb led the Trotters with five points and Hill was second in line with three.

The Plains Horsemen ended the season with a 72-28 loss to Thompson Falls. Bryson LeCoure shot three three-pointers in a row for the Blue Hawks and Gannarelli hooped a three-pointer for the Horsemen in the first quarter. Plains spearheaded the third quarter, 14-12, with a three-point end by Perianez.

Loberg led the Horsemen with nine points. Standenford shot six, Gannarelli, Perianez and Allen hooped three and Aaron Pfister and Zephiniah Dines both got two points. For the Blue Hawks Jesse Claridge and LeCoure led the team with 16 points each. Ben Cooper and Alex Menzel shot ten points each, Nick Tessier racked up six points, Braxton Dorscher and Cael Thilmony scored four and Breck Ferris and Kaiden Robins shot two points apiece.
