Warriors defeat Horsemen

The Plains Horsemen were pumped for their bout against the Arlee Warriors and for a while it looked as though Arlee had met its match as the Horsemen kept pace with them for the first quarter.

The Warriors drew first blood halfway through the quarter, but the Horsemen bounced back when quarterback Darren Standeford threw a bullet to wide receiver Aden West to tie things up 6-6. Neither team could get the two-point conversion. It wasn't long into the second quarter when Arlee scored and ran in for the two-point conversion. An onside kick is normally used when the game is on the line and a team needs to get the ball back, but Arlee employed it early in the game and it worked. Even though a Horseman jumped on the ball, he couldn't hold onto it and the Warriors took possession, followed by a touchdown and a completed two-pointer for a 28-6 game with just over two minutes left in the first half.

During a break in the game, it was announced that Crystal West won the $380 in the 50/50 drawing and donated $150 of it to the Plains Booster Club, said Randy Garrison, who serves as the voice of the Horsemen.

The third quarter started out bad for the Horsemen when the Warriors quickly got into the end zone and got the two-point conversion to make it 34-6. Even as the rain started pounding the field, Arlee continued its drive and scored again with just over five minutes in the third, ending the quarter 42-6.

In the fourth, Horseman Zaydan Allen had a 59-yard touchdown run that was called back on two Plains penalties. And with just under four minutes in the game, Arlee struck again and the game ended with a Warrior 50-6 triumph.

Plains is scheduled to host its final home game with Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 7, for a daytime game at 1 p.m. The Horsemen take on Charlo the following Friday at 7 p.m. and then Darby on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 5 p.m. for the final game of the season.
