Trotters down Devils, Eagles

January 17, 2019

The Plains Trotters stayed unbeaten in 2019 by defeating Noxon 36-24 Friday in Plains and Two Eagle River in District 14C basketball action last week, although scoring details from the Two Eagle game in Pablo could not be tracked down at press time.

If the season lasts long enough, Trotter coach Eddie Fultz thinks his girls could develop into the top-flight team he thinks they could be by season’s end.

“We are playing a little better each week,” Fultz said. “We have still got a ways to go, but I am pleased with our progress to this point.”

Beyond this point, the Trotters will visit Charlo for an important District 14C game Friday and will host Troy in a non-conference game Saturday. Fultz is looking forward in particular to the Charlo game, especially since the Trotters lost to the Vikings at home several weeks ago.

“This is a big game because right now, we are playing for second place in the league,” he said. “Anything we can do now to make getting out of the tournament a little easier is a bonus. The 14C tournament could be a tough one, and we need to set ourselves up the best we can for that.”

The middle two quarters were where the game was won with Noxon last week as the Trotters won those 16 minutes 19-7.

Natalee Deschamps led a balanced Plains scoring attack with eight points, Kassidy Kinzie scored seven, Kylee Altmiller six, Rachel Huenink, Haley Jospehson and Miera Loberg four each, and Mariah Smith one.
