When it came down to the fourth quarter, the Plains Horsemen had the late-game goods and moved to a 49-44 win over the Black Hawks in Seeley Lake Saturday.

Coach Tyrel Allen’s Horsemen trailed Seeley-Swan, one of the top teams in sister District 13C, 26-25 heading into the fourth period, but outscored the home boys 24-18 in the final eight minutes to snatch the win.

“We were able to get the job done in the fourth quarter,” Allen said. “We had kind of a lull there in the second and third quarters but were able to get back on track in the fourth.”

In other action last week, the Horsemen fell to District 14C-leading Arlee 70-50 in Arlee Thursday. In the thick of a race with Hot Springs and Noxon for third place in 14C and more favorable tournament positioning, the Horsemen have two key conference games on tap this week playing at Hot Springs Friday and hosting St. Regis Saturday.

Treydon Brouilllette led Plains in the win at Seeley with 20 points, Jake Weyers added 13, Derick Curry 10, and Tucker Foster, Esvin Reyes and Matt McCracken two apiece. Cordell Turner scored 18 points for Seeley-Swan and Chance Johnson 17.

“Our guards had to score more because Seeley was denying our big guys,” Allen said. “Treydon scored it well and Jake had one of his better games of the season on both ends of the floor, offensively and defensively.”

Allen also cited McCracken’s stellar effort defending Seeley’s Owen Mercado, the leading scorer for the Blackhawks managed only six points against McCracken’s defensive effort.

At Arlee Thursday, Curry scored 12 points to lead Plains, Weyer added 10, Brouillette eight, McCracken seven, Reyes four, Jeremiah Allen, Nathan McNulty, Nathan Feliska and Parker Flock two apiece and Foster one.

Greg Whitesell poured in 22 points to pace Arlee, Lane Johnson scored 10 and Cody Tanner and Tar Bolen nine each.

Coach Allen is focused on what’s next this week with the key conference games against Hot Springs and St. Regis.

“It is going to be a battle for third place these last few weeks and we would like to put ourselves in the best possible seed for the upcoming tournament,” he said. “We need to finish out strong and see what that gets us.”
