The Thompson Falls Ambulance Service is looking for volunteers. They are in need of EMTs and drivers. An EMT class is planned for later this fall. According to Tim Cox, Treasurer of the Thompson Falls Ambulance Service, to become a member, an individual has to meet certain qualifications such as age (18 for EMT and 21 for driver) and must have a valid Montana driver license. They must also pass a background check, get a TB test (for Tuberculosis) and have a valid CPR card. Thompson Falls Ambulance will teach the CPR class, if a person hasn’t already been aleady certified.

“When the candidate enters the training period, the time duration for completing the training depends on the amount of time the candidate can put in, but will take probably a minimum of one to two months. After successfully going through the training, the candidate needs to be voted into membership by the other members. The training is not as strenuous as it sounds. It just takes a fair amount of time to complete,” Cox stated.

Cox continued, “I was told being on the ambulance service would be the most satisfying work I had ever done. I was told this by a prior member after he found out I had joined. Simply put, he was right. You don’t often have the opportunity to help someone who may be going through one of the most stressful days of their life, and the thank you that you get, is what keeps you going. It’s not for everybody, but for some, it’s everything.”
