County to interview health officer candidates

The Sanders County Board of Health continue its search for a new Public Health Officer. Eight county residents applied for the job and the Board of Health will choose three candidates to interview. The board also formed a committee to review the Board of Health bylaws. Commissioner Glen Magera and boar members Pepper Dorscher and Bina Eggensperger volunteered for that committee and will meet with the county attorney to review the bylaws.

Karren McKinzie notified the board that her title has changed to Tobacco Education Specialist. “The change in title is to put more emphasis on education instead of prevention,” she said. McKinzie has been working on tobacco education opportunities in local school districts. McKinzie also announced that the Sanders County Health Department received a president’s award from the state Public Health Association.

The county is seeking a new Public Health Nurse after Karen Morey announced her resignation, with May 31 being her last day with the county. “I want to thank Karen for taking care of my family for the last 20 years. It’s been a pleasure working with her,” said Trout Creek resident Daisy Carlsmith.

Also at last week’s Board of Health meeting, Sanders County Sanitarian Shawn Sorenson provided an update on compliance activities within the county. Sorenson said the American Legion in Paradise is waiting on the status of the Paradise sewer project before finding a permanent solution.
