Hawks finish regular season with wins

It was a winning week for the Blue Hawks as they finished up their regular season last week with both the boys and girls beating Troy on the road last Thursday and besting the Superior Bobcats Saturday in Thompson Falls.

THOMPSON FALLS 60, TROY 10

The young Hawks came out working as a team in Troy last Thursday during their last away game to get a swift layup to start the game. Troy was unable to answer back with their own basket. The Lady Hawks would soar high in the first quarter keeping the Lady Trojans scoreless. Starting the second quarter with a massive 11-point lead, the Thompson team would keep proving their quick hands, capitalizing off several steals early. It would be over halfway through the second quarter before Troy was able to break past the Lady Hawks to get their first points on the board. Using incredible teamwork Thompson was able to put up 25 points before the half.


Flying into the third quarter the Lady Hawks were able to sink the first basket, and the Lady Trojans were able to answer with a basket of their own. Banding together Thompson was able to break down Troy's defense with their quick passes to find the basket. The Lady Trojans were only able to get past the aggressive defense of the Lady Hawks one more time before the buzzer of the third quarter. Headed into the final Thompson held a colossal 45 point lead over the Lady Trojans. The Lady Hawks never let up their determination, proving to be a powerhouse team keeping the young Troy team once again scoreless in the final quarter. The quick-footed Lady Hawks were able to use their extraordinary teamwork to take the win.

Aubrey Baxter led the Hawks with 13 points, Gabbi Hannum had 11, Addy Deal and Delany Gerhard eight points each, Olivia Fitchett, Solveig Nygaard and Annalise Fairbank six apiece and Callie McGillis two points.

THOMPSON FALLS 44, TROY 29

The Blue Hawk boys also came home from Troy last Thursday with a win. The Thompson team would come out of their cage, gaining a massive eight point lead over the Trojans. Finally with only minutes left in the first Troy was able to break past the defense to find the basket. The Blue Hawks would swiftly answer with their own basket, keeping their lead. The Blue Hawks would have a five point lead going into the second quarter. With quick passes,Troy was able to get the first baskets of the quarter. Capitalizing off a rebound, the Blue Hawks were able to answer back. With less than a minute left, Thompson only had a four point lead over the Trojans.


The Blue Hawks busted out of their cage coming in from the half, getting the first basket. Troy was unable to answer with a basket of their own, before the crowd saw the quick-footed Blue Hawks race down the court for another swift layup. Thompson would keep the Trojans from putting any points on the board for over half of the third quarter, before Troy was able to break past the tight defense to sink a basket. The final quarter the teams would go basket for basket early on, but the Trojans were unable to close the massive point gap the Blue Hawks put between them. With only seconds left, senior David Abu-Abwsi was able to find the net for one last Blue Hawk basket to secure the win.


Junior Bryson LeCoure led the charge against Troy with 17 points, senior Nick Tessier scored eight, Cael Thilmony five, Braedon Ferris and Kaiden Robins four apiece, and Abu-Absi, Sam Burgess and Braxton Dorscher one basket each. Tessier led the team in rebounds with nine and assists with five.

THOMPSON 52, SUPERIOR 45

The Lady Hawks hosted the Superior Lady Bobcats for the final home game of the regular season. Quickly the Lady Hawks came out gaining the first points on the board. They were able to sink another basket before the Lady Bobcats were able to answer with a basket of their own. Showing their quick hands, Thompson was able to capitalize off of massive steals to make the point gap larger, and going into the second the Lady Hawks were up by five points. Keeping the quick-handedness, the Lady Hawks were able to sink baskets from steals starting in the second. Superior was no match for the aggressive defense Thompson was able to put on them. The Lady Hawks worked together to find great passes to keep their lead going into the second half.

The Lady Hawks came back to the half, showing their quick hands and getting a steal for the first layup. Superior seemed to find new fire, quickly breaking past the macho Lady Hawk defense to try to close the large point gap. While the Lady Bobcats found new fire, the Lady Hawks had also found their groove. Capitalizing off of steals, Addie Pardee was able to get back to back layups. Headed into the final quarter both teams found their own team groove, making each team work for each basket, but the young Lady Hawks were able to keep their massive lead and take the home court win.

Gabbi Hannum scored 13 points against Superior, Addi Pardee was close behind with 12 points, Gerhard had nine, Nygaard eight, Fitchett six, and Fairbank and Deal each scored two points.

THOMPSON FALLS 51, SUPERIOR 34

The Blue Hawks hit the home court for the last time taking on the Superior Bobcats. The Bobcats came in quick and quiet getting the first points and swiftly capitalizing off of several rebounds. The Blue Hawks were unable to answer and soon Superior had a massive 10 point lead. Finally Thompson was able to find the basket, putting their own points on the board. Heading into the second quarter, the Blue Hawks were able to find their groove, earning the first points of the quarter. The Bobcats proved to have the long hops getting several easy rebounds and layups. But Thomspson was able to answer back, and at the half the Blue Hawks were only down by three points.

The Blue Hawks came soaring back for the third quarter, finding their team groove. They were able to break past Superior's defense to pull ahead. The Hawks kept their lead going into the final quarter., where they were able to find each other with amazing passes and put up stunning layups. Quick passes allowed the breakdown of the Bobcat defense for the Blue Hawks to take the win.

LeCoure again led the Hawk boys with 21 points, Tessier had 10, Dorscher six, Ferris four, Thilmony and Robins three each, and Burgess and Theo Nygaard two points apiece.

The Blue Hawks hit the road for the 7-B District tournament in Mission on Friday, with the boys tipping off at 3:45 p.m. and the girls at 7:15 p.m.
