REMBRANDT IN THE MAKING - Callie Lackner and her daughter Shelby learn how to paint a lighthouse scene. Noxon senior Caitlyn Hagen organized the event to raise funds for the senior non-alcoholic, all-night party. Hagen has raised almost $1,250.

Noxon High School senior Caitlyn Hagen teamed up with resident Laura Jones and art teacher Krystal Murphy to execute a "Paint and Pop" event recently.

Hagen's version of the ever-famous "Paint and Sip," is basically the same idea, just without alcohol. In addition to painting and keeping art alive in the small community, there were goodies for sale and a live auction that went on during breaks.

The scene Hagen taught aspiring artists to paint was a lighthouse silhouette, with a sunset backdrop. "The participants learn basic painting techniques and terms while they are painting," said Hagen. At the end of the class, each participant was the proud owner of their own artwork.

On Sunday, Noxon hosted 19 aspiring artists, raising $650 dollars for the senior class all-night, non-alcoholic party. Parents of graduating seniors host the party after graduation. Hagen feels good about supporting the cause, "It is a place that all the seniors can be and be safe after graduation," she commented.

This was the second "Paint and Pop" Hagen helped arrange in Noxon. She held an event in January and raised almost $600 for the senior all-nighter as well, according to Hagen. "We had so many people ask us to host another "Paint and Pop." We enjoyed doing it, so we said 'Yes!'"

Since Hagen is a senior this year, the event's future is uncertain. "I have every intention to encourage future senior classes to continue this fundraiser," she said addressing upcoming students. "This event is a way for me to aid in brining the community together and able to incorporate art into the community, which is something that I strongly believe is important to have in communities," she said with confidence.

"I have done a lot of research and know from personal experience that art is so important to have in daily life. It is so beneficial, mentally and physically," Hagen stated. "On top of all that, this is a fun event, there is no pop quiz, no one is judging what you do. The event is very fun!"
