Sanders County track and field athletes completed one last challenge last weekend at the state meet in Great Falls.
Thompson Falls senior Will Hyatt placed in two events, finishing his high school career with a fourth-place finish in the 3,200 meter race at 10 minutes, 14.19 minutes, and placing sixth in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 4:38.01.
Sophomore Trinity Riffle was the only female athlete to place from Thompson Falls, finishing sixth in the high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches.
Junior Breck Ferris brought home two medals from state. He placed fifth in the long jump with a distance of 20 feet, 6.5 inches. Ferris was also part of the fifth-place 4x100 relay team for the Blue Hawks. Ferris, sophomore Braxton Dorscher, junior Jesse Claridge and senior Ryan Bucher ran the short relay in 45.05 seconds.
For Plains, freshman Alexis Deming finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 108 feet, 1 inch. Cade VanVleet finished second in the shot put for the Noxon Red Devils with a throw of 52 feet, 10 inches, and fifth in the discus with a throw of 143 feet, 4 inches.
Hot Springs senior Katelyn Christensen set a new school record in the 100 meter run as she finished fourth at state with a time of 12.94 seconds. Christensen also finished fourth in the 200 meter run with a time of 26.59.
