County enacting fire restrictions

Due to the hot, dry weather conditions, Sanders County is moving to Stage I fire restrictions on Monday. Commissioners signed a resolution Thursday imposing the restrictions, which will go into effect at 12:01 a.m. Monday.

Under Stage I, campfires are prohibited except in a developed recreation site or improved site. Smoking is also prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, or developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials. Certain exemptions are allowed, including that the restrictions do not apply to land within a city boundary. The resolution states that an exemption does not absolve an individual or organization from liability or responsibility for any fire started by the exempted activity.

The Stage I fire restrictions will remain in effect until rescinded by the commissioners.
