Approval rating for congress has gone up – at least that of the Thompson Falls Bowling Congress, where strikes on their record is a good thing.

Rimrock Lanes held a fundraiser Saturday, Jan. 27, to raise funds for the purchase of new bowling shoes. While half the fun of bowling is the stylish shoes, the ones at the lanes have been long due for replacing.

A No Tap Tourney fundraiser was held in October at Rimrock Lanes to bolster the annual $500 scholarship awarded by the congress.

In all, $300 was raised with Ginger Ward taking first place, Nancy Gressang landing second and Robin Hagedorn hitting third place for the women. Terrey Terrence took first place for the men, with Rick Hagedorn landing second and Preston Jopling taking home third place.

The 2017 State Senior Tournament was held in Ronan, September through October. Thirteen participants from Thompson Falls competed with two bowlers placing in age divisions: Nancy Fields taking fourth place and Ginger Ward taking second place. Longtime bowler Peggy Reller has placed in her age division three times and attended the national tourney in Las Vegas twice.

For the first time since 2014, the State Senior Tourney will take place in Thompson Falls, temporarily boosting the economy as bowlers from all over the state attend. It will last four or five weekends in September and October, depending on the number of entrants in the all-day bowling extravaganza. The tourney is open to anyone age 50 and over with a current Montana bowling average.

Youth bowling is also underway, boasting 38 local kids ranging in ages from 7 to 18.

There are a lot of return players sporting the Thompson River Lumber sponsored shirts, provided by the mill year after year. The youth events are organized by BJ Adams, Sandy True and Ginger Ward – all certified coaches.
