Water aerobics class a hit at TF city pool

BEATING THE HEAT - Aerobic class members stay cool in the pool during a session last week at the city pool.

The Thompson Falls City Pool offers a nice relief on a hot day. The recreational open swim times are 1 pm to 7 pm, Monday through Friday and noon to 5 pm on Saturdays. If you want to get a little more out of your swim you can join the lap swim session or the water aerobics classes that are offered. Monday through Friday the lap swim is 8:30-9:30 a.m. and the water aerobics classes are 8:30-9:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

The Thompson Falls Recreational Director, Sandra Kazmierczak, maintains the city pool and leads the water aerobics classes. They do a full dynamic workout in the shallow end to work a wide variety of muscles and get the heart rate up with cardio. The class then moves to the deep end to work on core strength and specifically target other areas of the body. Each person is provided with a pool float so they are able to get the most out of the core workout and not have to focus on treading water.

Water aerobics is a popular way to exercise because the buoyancy of the water helps to take off some of the impact that is put on the body's joints during a regular workout. The water also adds a natural resistance when exercising so you get a full workout and burn more calories in less time. There is also the comfort factor of having a cool pool to be in instead of out in the sun. The aerobics classes and the lap swim are open to all interested adults.
