Blue Hawk senior Braxton Dorscher follows his shot in Hamilton.

Thompson and Plains took to the road for the Florence-Darby Invitational hosted by the Hamilton Golf Club last week. With over 100 golfers and 10 teams between the boys and girls it proved to be tough competition.

Plains did not have enough golfers to score as a team, but Coach Lisa Brown was happy with the efforts of golfers Brandt Snead, Drew Carey and Eleanor Bebb.

"They all did a good job managing their games. We should have everyone ready to golf in our tournament on Friday" Brown said.

Thompson Falls only had two girl golfers with Solveig Nygaard taking seventh place with her score of 103 in her first competition.

"Solveig was able to keep her putts down to 34, which is phenomenal with the change of speed in green conditions from our course to Hamilton's. The greens were very fast," Coach Doree Thilmony said.

Freshman Aubrey Baxter had a grand score of 112, earning her a place in the top 10.

"Aubrey also adjusted to the greens. She chips the ball very well and puts herself in great position for putting. She racked up a par on hole 18 as well," Coach Thilmony beamed.

While the girls did not have enough players for a team score, the boys took 10th out of 12 teams.

Theo Nygaard had a great game earning himself an 87, parring on five consecutive holes. He then carded three more pars on the front nine for a total of seven for the day. Fellow senior Cael Thilmony came in with a score of 99, finding himself with an out of bounds penalty and some not so fun times in the sand. In his first 18-hole tournament, Braxton Dorscher ended with a score of 126. Another newcomer in the golfing world was Chase Helvey who ended his day with a score of 133.

"A few of the holes challenged Chase, but he still managed to find two holes to par on. He has been putting in a lot of time and effort and this will pay off. Since he is learning at such a fast pace I see his scores dropping very quickly," said Coach Thilmony.

The golf teams will now see each other again Friday in Plains as the Horsemen and Trotters host their home tournament.
