MEGAN BAXTER goes up for two of her 15 points scored against Deer Lodge Saturday at TFHS.

Playing good defense is all about position, about being in the right place at the right time.

Suffering through a few defensive lapses, the Thompson Falls Lady Hawks lost twice last week, falling 61-33 to the Valkyries in Bigfork Friday and 66-36 to the Lady Wardens in Thompson Falls Friday.

Hoping to find their defensive chops this week, the Hawks were to have visited Noxon Tuesday (results were not available) and will travel to Superior Friday for a game with the Clark Fork Mountain Cats, the co-operative formed between Superior and Alberton.

Coach Doree Thilmony thinks she knows what went wrong for the Hawks in Bigfork last week.

"It seems like our defense broke down a little bit," she said. "We weren't keeping people in front of us and they were able to get some easy baskets. We need to work on that in our upcoming games."

The Vals jumped out to a 14-6 lead after the first quarter and moved to the win from there.

Megan Baxter led the Lady Hawks in Bigfork with yet another double double, scoring 15 points and clearing 17 rebounds, Faith Frields added six points, and Sarah Detlaff, Jody Detlaff and Riley Wilson four each.

Jody Detlaff had seven rebounds and Maya Stiles passed out two assists.

Ansleigh Edgerton scored 15 points to lead Bigfork, Jordan Nelson added 13 and Meredith Bedford 11.

Back on court Saturday, Thilmony was impressed with what she saw from the Lady Wardens.

"That is a good team, I was impressed with them," she said. "We reduced our number of turnovers, but Deer Lodge really shot the ball well, you have to give them credit."

Baxter recorded yet another double double, this time scoring 15 points and securing 21 rebounds, in addition to blocking three shots, Jody Detalff scored nine points and speared five rebounds, Wilson scored four points, Stiles and Sarah Detlaff three apiece and Frields two.

Stiles also had three assists and Frields a team-high three steals.

Rilee Gray scored 18 points for Deer Lodge, including a four for five effort from beyond the 3-point arc, Rachel Nicholson added 14 and Mya Wirth 10.
