HERE'S TO RETIREMENT – Sanders County Extension Office Administrative Assistant Shirley Kinkade was celebrated Thursday evening at the fairground pavilion. Kinkade received an etched glassware set showing appreciation for her 26 years of service.

As the 2018-2019 4-H year closes, so does the 26-year career of Shirley Kinkade, who served as administrative assistant at the Sanders County Extension Office.

Parents of current 4-H youth members Joanne Burk and Carrie Guenzler began the honors when they announced they recall Kinkade being a crucial role in the 4-H program when they were young members. They applauded her for her years of dedication to the program and expressed gratitude.

"It doesn't happen without the joint efforts of everyone," Kinkade stated when she took center stage. "I appreciate you guys," she continued, "without organizational leaders, where would we be? They are my backbone."

With a bout of laughter, Kinkade commented that sometimes she isn't so popular when contacting parents, volunteers or coworkers about 4-H related matters because it usually means someone must fix something. Kinkade is known to have an eagle eye and pays the utmost attention to details, something that is mandatory in her position and, appreciated.

"As you know, MSU is not just 4-H, there is more to it than that," shared Kinkade acknowledging the informational aspect MSU provides. "MSU is a family. It is counties overlapping counties." The bonds felt throughout the state of Montana are held together by the university and programs they support.

"Kids are what make the world go around, they are our future leaders," she said with passion about what she directed as being one of the best youth programs in the U.S. She expressed that she enjoys watching current members who are learning lessons now so "they can teach the others coming up."

Kinkade gave kudos to her coworkers, who she said have been a "blessing to work with." She also acknowledged the county commissioners who have been huge supporters of the program.

"I am ready for a new season in my life, but I won't forget the friendships I have made," closed Kinkade in her farewell speech.

Ashley Devol will be Kinkade's replacement and has been training through fair time to prepare in taking over for Kinkade.
