Hot Springs school resumes after report of threat

Hot Springs School District closed Tuesday after a possible threat to the school was found on social media. Superintendent Gerald Chouinard released a statement early Tuesday morning that the Sanders County Sheriff’s Office and Hot Springs Police Department were investigating the legitimacy of the possible threat. “In an abundance of caution, school will be closed Tuesday, 5/3/2022, and will remain closed until the threat is mitigated,” Chouinard wrote, instructing students and employees not to report to school and adding that activities were cancelled.

Tuesday afternoon, Chouinard posted on Facebook that the threat “has been eliminated, and safety concerns at the school no longer exist.” School resumed on Wednesday.

“As or right now, there is no danger to the public regarding the previously reported social media post about threats of suspect(s) attempting a school shooting at the Hot Springs School District,” Hot Springs Police released on their Facebook page. “A person of interest has been identified and interviewed regarding the matter. Precautionary measures are in place at this time and the investigation is continuing.”
