TF drops late fees for dog licenses

In an effort to encourage residents living inside Thompson Falls city limits to have their dogs licensed, City Clerk and Treasurer Chelsea Peterson wants to inform city residents of some new changes and improvements that have been made.

“We are doing things differently than we have in the past,” said Peterson. “We are now charging only $5 to license your dog for the entire year. We only have 72 dog tags sold so far in the city. I know there are more than 72 dogs in the city limits,” she added.

City Hall is lowering the cost of licensing a dog to incentivize people to get their dogs licensed and vaccinated. “We only charge $5 now for spayed or neutered dogs and do not have a late fee any more due to wanting people to get their dogs licensed and vaccinated for rabies,” Peterson said.

An upside to licensing a dog with the city is that it makes it easier for people to return your dog if it wanders off.

“When a person licenses their dog with the city, their information is entered into the city’s records, and you are given a dog tag that confirms vaccinations have been done. The tag also lets whoever finds your animal know where to return it to.”
