It was a busy week for Hot Springs basketball last week. They traveled to Alberton, St. Regis and Charlo, where they put on the heat and faced challenges.

On Tuesday the Hot Springs boys got their second win of the season, leading Alberton 24-9 in the opening quarter and coming in strong for the win, 59-29.

The Savage Heat girls, however, lost to Alberton. Lily DeTienne was the top scorer with a whopping 23 points and she made 11 rebounds. The team made 44% of their free-throws.

The girls game Thursday against St. Regis left the fans on the edge of their seats. The Savage Heat seized a 27-14 half-time lead. But then the Tigers started gaining momentum, catching up fast. “We took a time out and the girls took me seriously,” said coach Richard Jackson. With the fans holding their breath, Hot Springs was able to bring on the heat for a 52-48 point victory.

“I’m tickled with the team and proud of their effort against St. Regis and being able to re-group and maintain,” said Jackson. DeTienne scored 22 points, Lauyrn Aldridge netted nine points and got eight rebounds, Kara Christensen scored seven points and Brooke Jackson made five assists. The Savage Heat boasted a 54% free-throw average.

The Hot Springs boys lost against St. Regis 51-30. They put on the heat in the last half scoring sixteen to the Tiger’s ten points.

By Friday the Hot Springs girls may have run out of gas, said Jackson. They lost 48-19 against the Charlo Vikings. Senior DeTienne and freshman Christensen both scored six points with Christensen snatching an impressive eight rebounds.

The boys also had a challenging game, losing to the Vikings 72-17.

The Savage Heat will travel to Superior this Saturday to take on the Bobcats.
