SHOOTING FOR TWO - Noxon's Alex Currie shoots over the outstretched arms of Plains' Matt McCracken in Noxon Saturday. For stories on last week's Sanders County basketball action, please turn to pages 12 and 13.

The Noxon boys basketball team won one and lost one on their homecourt last week, defeating Troy 47-37 in a non-conference game Thursday and falling to Plains 51-35 in a District 14C encounter Saturday.

Coach Bart Haflich wants his boys to be the ones making the moves, and not their opponents. "We can't let other teams' defenses dictate the flow of the game," he said. "We have to take care of the ball better and run better offensive sets."

Haflich said slow starts have hampered the Red Devils at times this season and last week's games were no exception to that rule.

The Devils fell behind Troy 14-9 after the first quarter, and to Plains 30-15 after the first half. Noxon was able to reverse the trend with Troy, coming back to win with a strong effort through the last three quarters in that game, but could not against Plains.

Rylan Weltz and Logan Wood led the Devils to the win over Troy with 11 and 10 points each, respectively, Ethan Hinrchsen added seven, Alex Currie six, Braedon Marshall five and Levi Brubaker and Owen Fisher four apiece.

Alex Freund scored 11 points to pace Troy and Trevor Hoagland and Jason Stever had eight points each.

Against Plains, the Horsemen won the middle two quarters 34-11 to take complete control of the game.

Wood scored 15 point to lead Noxon in that game, Weltz added eight, Marshall four, Currie and Hinrichsen three apiece and Brubaker two.

Please see other story for Plains scoring.

The Devils hit the road for two more games this week, at Sanders County rival Thompson Falls Thursday and against Two Eagle River in Pablo Saturday.

"We look for another tough test in Thompson Falls," he said. "We haven't played them for a few years so we are looking forward to seeing them again."
