December 28, 2017

The Thompson Falls Blue Hawk boys gave themselves an early Christmas present Thursday, defeating Troy 74-41 in their first District 7B conference game of the season.

In other action to wrap up play in 2017, the Hawks lost to the Plains Horsemen 59-54 in Plains last Tuesday (Dec. 19). Now 1-0 in 7B action and 3-4 overall, coach Jake Mickelson and his Hawks return to action Jan. 2, hosting Loyola in another non-conference game.

The Hawks controlled the middle two quarters of play in Troy to run away from the Trojans, winning the second quarter 20-7 and the third 21-8 to take a 63-30 lead into the fourth and coasted in for the win from there.

Nate Thibeault led the Hawks to the win with 21 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals, Payton Frields added 16 points, five boards, three assists and three steals, Danny Hoisington 14 points and three steals and Grant Lundberg 12 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots.

Michael Johnson had four points and seven rebounds, Kade Pardee three points and two steals, Dylan Beckman two points, three assists and two steals and Alex Erosa two points and three rebounds. Although he did not score, Ryan Schraeder grabbed two steals and a rebound.

Alex Freund scored 10 points to pace Troy, AJ Faur chipped in eight and Dylan Cummings seven.

Thompson Falls lost its only scheduled game of the season with the rival Horsemen in Plains earlier last week. Coach Mike Cole’s Horsemen built a 19-13 lead after one quarter in that game and managed to hold on for the non-conference win.

In spite of foul troubles that eventually sent him to the bench for the night, Hoisington scored 15 points, cleared six rebounds and grabbed three steals, and Thibeault also scored 15 points and added three rebounds.

Also eventually disqualified due to fouls, Beckman added eight points, five rebounds and three assists, Frields contributed six points and an amazing total of nine steals, Erosa two points, five rebounds and two steals, Johnson three points and four rebounds, and Lundberg two points and eight rebounds.

Details on Plains scoring in the game was not available.
