It was the best of times; it was the worst of times.

The Over the Hill gang attacked River’s Bend Monday morning with a worst-to-best playing format, leaving the golfers playing their team of two’s worst second shot for score.

Using this worst-is-best formula which seems like it was designed to drive up scores, Dave Garr and John Pritzkau played the best with their worst shots and won the friendly competition with a worst-to-best round of 32.7.

Not far behind in the battle to be the best of the worst, the teams of Ron Beaty and Wally Gibe, and of Charlie Hooten and Rusty Haggard tied for second with rounds of 35.

In regularly scheduled Over the Hill hole play, Scott Garr was closet to the pin in 2 on No. 10, Bary Moore buried the long putt of the day on No. 11 and again on No. 13, Bruce Haflich converted the long putt on No. 12, Lana Nolen was at her best on No. 14 where she hit closest to the pin off the tee, Wally Gibe was the man closest to the pin on No. 14, Hooten hit the long 70+ drive and knocked down the long putt on No. 15, Nolen rolled in the long putt on No. 16, Dave Garr secured long putt honors on No. 17, Rusty Haggard plopped down the long putt on No. 18, and Mike Gilmore hit the long men’s drive on No. 18.

With many of their worst (or best?) shots ending up in the bunkers, Pete Morkert (No. 14), George Krueger (16), Darrel “Torgy” Trogrimson (14 and 18), Nolen (14) and Wally Gibe (12) all made chip-in shots part of their worst-to-best rounds.

Ron Sharp and Moore were required to pay for their pars on No. 13.

For better or worse, Over the Hill golfers will again gather at the Bend next week for another fun round, weather permitting, of course.
