With summer in full swing, many of us are itching to get out and hike. Cabinet Ranger District recreation specialist Joel Sather gave the following updates, as of June 28, to the following hiking trail conditions.

Black Peak Trail #763, the trail crew got 1 mile up the trail and there are plans to continue work on the trail throughout the summer.

Engle Lake Trail #932 is cleared to Engle Trail #926 junction. Engle Trail #926 is cleared. Snow is present in the trees and on the ridgeline and surrounding Engle Lake, though the lake is free of ice. Expect wintery conditions.

Middle Fork Bull Trail #978 is cleared as well as the lower 1.5 miles of Roe Gulch Trail #894. The Cabinet Ranger District expects to finish Roe Gulch #894 and 20 Odd Trail #898 loop later this summer.

Dad Peak #987 and Devil’s Club #966 are cleared and ready for hiking. Devil’s Club is brushy and holds minimal tread in some spots. The crew plans to continue working on the trail. It is reported that Dad Peak #987 has impressive views due to the fire but has a significant amount of alder located in the road/trail portion.

Berray Mountain West #1028 and Berray Mountain #967 are cleared of blowdown. There is a brushy chunk in the middle of Berray #967.

Moose Peak Trail #877, Elk Mountain Trail #861 and Elk Lake #882 have been cleared and treaded and are ready for action.

St. Paul Trail #646 has been cleared by the crosscut saw crew who participated in the training.

Historic Star Peak Trail #999 and Big Eddy Trail #998 were being cleared at the time of print. The plan is to have them both cleared by this week.

Plains Ranger District trail information was not available at time of print. The Ledger will provide the information in a later issue.
