The Noxon Lady Red Devils split games last week, losing a 43-40 decision to Sanders County rival Thompson Falls in Noxon Tuesday, Jan. 15 and coming back to blow out Two Eagle River 66-6 in Noxon Friday.

Against Thompson Falls, coach Ryan Weltz’s Devils led 21-15 at halftime before the Lady Hawks won the third quarter 15-4 to take a 30-19 lead, which they never relinquished, into the fourth quarter.

“We played well most of the game, had one little mental lapse there in a three to four minute stretch,” Weltz said, “and that was the difference in the game. I thought we played well enough overall to win but just didn’t quite get it done, and you have to give Thompson Falls credit for that.”

Senior Delaney Weltz led the Lady Devils versus Thompson Falls with 11 points, eighth grader Avery Burgess dropped in 10 more, Kristina Brown six, Chelsea Vohs five, Emily Brown four and Kali Murray and Rachel Ehinger two apiece.

The Devils got well quick in the easy win over visiting Two Eagle River Friday, roaring out to an 18-5 lead after one quarter and upping that advantage to 40-6 by halftime. Noxon then held the Eagles to zero points in the third and fourth quarters while scoring 26 more themselves in the second half.

Weltz scored 17 points to lead Noxon, Burgess added 11, Murray nine, Kristina Brown and Vanessa Horner seven each, Emily Brown four and Vohs one.

Liz Hill bucketed four points for Two Eagle and Trinity Carpentier the other two.

The Devils face two important District 14C road tests this week, traveling to St. Regis Friday and to league-leading Charlo Saturday.

“We felt like we didn’t play well against St. Regis in our place and would like to perform better this time around,” coach Weltz said. “Charlo is always tough, especially in their gym, but we think we can compete with them too.

“The biggest thing for us is execution,” he added. “If we execute our offense and play good defense, I truly believe we can play with any team in this league.”
