HAWK JUNIOR Ethan Brown won second place at the Division 3 tournament in Anaconda last week and is playing in the State B in Missoula this week. Brown reportedly shot a 77 in the first round Tuesday.

On to bigger and better things.

Not in the game for team glory this season, two Thompson Falls High School golfers with lofty individual expectations, junior Ethan Brown for the boys and Megan Baxter for the girls, were competing at Canyon River (girls) and the Ranch Club (boys) courses in Missoula early this week hoping to earn honors at the two-day State B tournament.

To be played Tuesday and Wednesday, results from the State B were not available at press time.

Although coaches Mike Bates and Gary Thompson did not have enough golfers to figure into team scoring this spring, it was a successful season nonetheless. The Division 3 tournament, where the top 15 finishers automatically earn bids into this week's State B, was golfed at Old Works course in Anaconda last Tuesday, May 7.

LADY HAWK SOPHOMORE Megan Baxter, who also is on the Thompson Falls track and field team, won ninth place in the Division 3 tourney to earn a berth in the State B tourney. Baxter shot 107 in Missoula Tuesday.

A returning All-State B performer from 2018, Brown shot his best round of the 2019 campaign in Anaconda, touring Old Works' 18-hole course in only 79 strokes to finish in a solid second place to Missoula Loyola's Bucky Crippen, who fired a 73 to win.

Reed Noyd of Loyola finished third with an 83, Cody Graveley (84) of Townsend was fourth and Kaie Bauer (85) of Anaconda fifth.

Blue Hawk linkster Nate Ostwald shot 103 and tied for 24th place, just missing out on a top 15 place finish and a berth at state.

On the girls' side, Baxter (who also runs track and field for the Hawks during her spare time) carded a 100 and finished ninth overall.

Loyola's Katie Fagg and Isadora Tomazelli finished first and second with rounds of 78 and 85, while Isabella Santistevan of Bigfork was third with an 86.

Missoula Loyola won both the boys and girls team competition in Anaconda.

In addition to Brown, Baxter and Ostwald, Ben Croft and Jolia Buchanan also golfed for the Blue Hawks this season.
