Sewer hookups to begin in T. Falls

The final portion of phases one and two of the city’s wastewater project will begin the week of July 4 and will continue until finished. Wastewater hookups to homes will start from Wood Street and continue east as the water main replacement runs through Spruce Street.

Residents will be receiving notices one week in advance of when the hookup on their property will occur. The notices will have a general location of the pipe placement or the location will be marked on the ground in green paint.

The city asks residents to remove all personal property from the area so the contractor will have access to place the pipe and do the hookup. Septic tanks will be pumped and filled with sand or gravel to decommission them.

The city also asks residents to take pictures before and after the contractor starts work on the property to help mitigate any conflicts. The contractor is responsible for returning the disturbed area to the same or better condition than it was before the work started, which includes sidewalks, fences and retaining walls. Landscaping after the construction will be the responsibility of the homeowner. Any known water, electrical or phone lines should be marked by the homeowner to help save the contractor from disturbing any unknown lines.

The wastewater hookups come after the completion of phase one and two that included upgrades to the treatment facility and lagoons, as well as connecting homes to the system that are above the railroad tracks and to the west of Grove Street. Mayor Mark Sheets said hookups for phases 1 and 2 should be complete by the end of September, and the final phases of the project should be completed in 2024.

The city notes now that the weather is starting to cooperate, paving of the streets will start, helping reduce the dust in some areas. The city would like to thank everyone for their patience during these projects. For more, visit http://www.cityofthompsonfalls.com and click on "infrastructure."
