After honoring one of their own with a moving tribute, the Thompson Falls Blue Hawks went out and put a 62-0 whipping on the visiting Victor Pirates at Previs Field Friday.

Now 2-0 overall and 1-0 in Western C conference play, coach Jared Koskela and his brand-new 8-Man Hawk football team will get a chance to see how good they really are when they take on the giant-killing Clark Fork Mountain Cats, quite possibly the hottest 8-Man team in Montana right now, in Alberton Friday night.

The Mountain Cats are 2-0 in Western C action and overall after defeating Flint Creek (74-42 two weeks ago) and Mission (54-32 last week). The win over Flint Creek, broke a 26-game winning streak for the Titans, the two-time defending State C champs. And they didn't just defeat Flint Creek, they fairly well destroyed them.

"We are treating Clark Fork like the No. 1 team in the state, they have been impressive so far that's for sure," Koskela said. "This game should be a really big test for both teams."

And both teams are led by guys named Trey, as quarterback Trey Fisher is the heart and soul of Thompson Falls' attack on both sides of the ball, whilst running back Trey Green of Clark Fork seems to be the biggest playmaker for the Mountain Cats.

"It could be Trey versus Trey, a huge battle on both sides of the ball," Koskela offered. "I am sure they will be shadowing each other on a lot of plays Friday night."

Thompson Falls senior defensive lineman/tight end Dakota Irvine also knows Green quite well from many wrestling battles over the past several years. Koskela also knows Clark Fork head coach Jeff Schulz from the days when they played college football against each other, Koskela for Montana Tech and Schulz for Western Montana.

"Dakota has a history with Green, and I know Jeff pretty well now, too," Koskela said. "This has all the makings of a pretty interesting matchup Friday, that's for sure."

Clark Fork was ranked No. 3 among all 8-Man teams in Montana in the latest 406mtsports.com power poll.

"We have got to into this game with a chip on our shoulders, like it means something to us," Koskela said.

Last Friday's game with Victor meant something to the Hawks, and to the family of Luke Comerford, who was honored on the first play of the game. Comerford died earlier this summer in a tragic accident.

For the first play, Koskela left the right tackle position open and placed Comerford's No. 63 jersey on the ground where he would have been standing had he been playing. Koskela then led the tribute while the play was run which included everyone holding up their fingers in an "L" shaped gesture for their teammate Luke Comerford.

Luke's younger brother Blake Comerford wore one of Luke's Blue Hawk jerseys and served as ball boy for Friday's game.

Once the game started, it was all Thompson Falls from there on out as the out-manned Pirates could not seem to get anything going.

The Hawks roared out to a 14-0 lead after one quarter and increased the advantage steadily from there, to 40-0 by halftime, and to 54-0 by the end of the third quarter.

Fisher and Nate Wilhite scored two touchdowns each for the Hawks, and Roman Sparks (on a pass from Fisher), Brandon Zimmerman, Trae Thilmony, Eiken Newman and Elijah Ratliff had one touchdown each.
