Fear the mighty Lady Hawks.

The No. 5 ranked Thompson Falls Lady Hawks flew past the Florence Falcons 55-30 in Thompson Falls Saturday to complete regular season play.

Now 13-2 and the No. 2 seed from District 7B into the Western B divisional tournament in Eureka March 3-5, the Hawks will practice this week, preparing for Florence (the No. 3 from 6B) again in the first round of that tourney March 3.

And although they just defeated the Falcons soundly, Hawk coach Chadd Laws will be taking nothing for granted in next week’s game against Florence.

“Florence is a very capable team,” he said. “They play a tough man-to-man defense that can scramble any game. We will have to play well again to beat them again.”

The win over Florence was another day at the office for the powerful Lady Hawks, who have rose to No. 5 in the latest Class B power poll. Other currently ranked teams from the Western B include No. 6 Loyola (15-3), No. 7 Eureka (13-5) and No. 9 Anaconda (11-5).

Loyola and Eureka are on the other side of the bracket from the Hawks for the Western B, but Anaconda looms as a possible semifinal opponent next week, if the Lady Hawks get past Florence again that is.

“We are concentrating on one game at a time,” Laws said, “the Western B is looking like it will be very competitive and we hope to be one of the teams in the mix.”

Quite probably the leading point producer in TFHS history, male or female, Megan Baxter led the Lady Hawks to the win over Florence with 27 points, Riley Wilson and Jody Detlaff added eight each, Faith Frields five, Elli Pardee three and Ellie Baxter and Caity Alexander two apiece.

Florence scoring was not available.

The Lady Hawks also went to Libby and defeated the Lady Loggers Tuesday, February 16 but scoring from that game was not available.
