Lisa Brown, who co-coaches the Plains High School golf team along with Don Stamm, thinks her golfers have only just begun to scratch their potential as the season winds down.

“These kids have been putting a lot into their golf games and are getting better every week,” she said. “Our younger players are really coming along. It will be exciting to see how everyone ends up playing here late in the season.”

Hoping to putt more of that links potential to work this week, Brown and Stamm will guide their young charges into the Seeley-Swan Invitational Thursday. That tourney was originally set for Friday but the Double Arrow Golf Course wanted the course for public use that day and moved the tournament date to accommodate the club.

Playing with a full four-person team (only three are required for scoring in the State C meet), the Plains girls won first place in the St. Regis Invitational played at Trestle Creek last Thursday, with Kaylee Cole leading the Trotters in with a 97 (good for second place individually) and Kimmy Curry (104), Grace Horton (124), Lexa Craft (127) and Tessa Williams (144) following.

The Trotters scored the low team total of 452, Seeley-Swan was second at 459 and Loyola third at 498.

On the boys side, the Horsemen netted a team score of 479 as Duncan Chisholm carded a 99, Nick Gumm posted a 124, Brandt Snead 127 and Drew Carey 129.

Loyola won the boys meet with a cumulative score of 352 and Superior was second at 362.

Brown said Cole, Curry and Chisholm have met the standard and already qualified for the State C tournament in Bozeman May 18-19, and that she hopes to have several others qualify in what’s left of the season.
